From land to runway
The project started from natural scrubland. The first task was surveying and earthworks: setting out, levelling and compacting a platform able to take a runway with the gradients and flatness that aviation use requires.
Runway and hangars in Pozo Cañada: an aviation facility set in the open landscape of the Albacete plain. Design and site management by Ingeteo.
The project started from natural scrubland. The first task was surveying and earthworks: setting out, levelling and compacting a platform able to take a runway with the gradients and flatness that aviation use requires.
The runway is built with a continuous asphalt surface that disappears into the horizon. Its straight alignment and even finish are both a technical requirement and the most powerful image of the project.
The hangars use a light steel structure with sheet-metal cladding, quick to assemble and with a large clear span, to store and service aircraft with ample room.
A facility like this sits in a wide, very horizontal landscape. The layout aims for simplicity: few, well-ordered pieces that do not compete with their surroundings.
