Nursery and primary school in the Imaginalia district of Albacete. Red and white volumes, porches with rooflights and courtyards that play with light and shade. Construction management by Ingeteo.
The school is composed of two materials in dialogue: volumes clad in red ribbed panels, with a vertical texture that vibrates in the sun, and white pieces that cantilever over the courtyards. The contrast gives the building an identity recognisable from afar.
The entrance porches are pierced by large rooflights that draw patches of light on the paving throughout the day. They are shaded spaces for break time and waiting, alongside cypresses that will grow with the school.
Some windows are framed by white pieces that project from the red façade, like bay windows at a child’s scale: a simple gesture that gives each classroom its own character.
The concrete structure with large cantilevers was the technical challenge of the works. As construction managers, Ingeteo controlled its execution and that of every finish through to handover.
